Yuan’s Recent Calm May End on Seasonal Factors, Analysts Say
The yuan’s recent calm run may be nearing an end as September approaches, with typically strong fall exports and other seasonal factors expected to lift the Chinese currency, analysts say.
The offshore yuan has traded in a narrow range of 560 pips in the past month, versus a 2026 monthly average of around 845 pips. The tight range underscores dampened trading activity partly stemming from the central bank’s consistently weaker‑than‑expected fixings. The daily fix, which caps the yuan’s moves within 2% on either side onshore, has come weaker than survey forecasts for over four months, the longest streak since Bloomberg-compiled data began in 2018.
