Woman who died while pregnant is 'no longer afraid of death' after what she saw in afterlife A pregnant woman who was clinically dead during a near-death experience has claimed that she is "no longer afraid of death" after what she saw on the other side A woman who had a near-death experience while pregnant has said she is no longer afraid of death after she had a stunning revelation about what comes next. Marta Zacharia was 26 when she had her brush with death while expecting a child. Marta, who tragically experienced a miscarriage and was reportedly a victim of medical malpractice, later recalled how she went into hospital for surgery and “fell into the hands of some quack surgeon who told me I needed to have uterine surgery”. During the surgery it was found she had an issue with her cervix and she needed a second operation to fix it. It was during this surgery that she suffered her near-death experience, suffering a cardiac arrest that meant she was clinically dead before medics resuscitated her. Speaking to Clarin about the matter she recalled how she left her body and found herself looking down at the operating table before later waking up next to her husband. The 70-year-old recalled: "Suddenly, I left my body and was looking down at it on the operating table. Then I entered a tunnel at incredible speed and saw a light. "I woke up in the room, and my husband was holding my hand. I was hooked up to wires and had a drain in my abdomen. That’s when I told him: 'I dreamed of Saint Peter.'" Afterwards she found out that during this second surgery she had had to be resuscitated. It was after this that she made a critical decision. Following her miscarriage, she and her husband decided to adopt instead. She said: "That’s when I told my husband I wouldn't undergo any more treatments. I didn't want to keep taking the risk. I’ve concluded that God had something in store for me, a purpose. In my case, a little boy who needed me.” However Marta’s changes went far beyond just deciding to adopt, they changed her whole perspective on how she feels about dying, what it means to die, and what happens to us after this life. She explained: "I am convinced that what comes next is far better than this life, based on what I felt. “I don't want to die right now because I want to watch my grandchildren grow up and enjoy their company; I am human, after all. But I’m not afraid of death. “The body is just a case, a vessel. Let the wind take me, because I don’t believe in death. I am convinced there is another plane of existence, that it doesn’t end. When does it end? I don’t know." Marta is one of thousands of people to have gone through a near-death experience with studies showing that many people go through a similar event. Speaking about the phenomenon, Dr Pablo Bagnati of FLENI’s Cognitive Neurology Department said: "Very thorough studies were carried out in hospitals, which showed that many survivors of cardiopulmonary arrest recalled some form of consciousness that was not detected by standard monitors." One such study was one published in the Resuscitation journal that found that concluded that some form of consciousness may occur during cardiac arrest. They said: "Consciousness. awareness and cognitive processes may occur during CA. “The emergence of normal EEG may reflect a resumption of a network-level of cognitive activity, and a biomarker of consciousness, lucidity and RED (authentic "near-death" experiences).”
