Met Office names 37 areas facing 38C on Thursday in 15-hour heatwave alert – list Met Office weather forecasters have issued an extreme heat warning - areas across the East Midlands, East of England, London and South East England, West Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber will be affected Thirty-seven areas across England are due to be hit by "very hight temperatures" as people have been warned of "impacts". An amber weather warning for "extreme heat" has been issued by the Met Office and will be in place for most of Thursday. The high temperatures will come into force at 9am, with the weather remaining in place until midnight. The Met Office said: "Following a warm night, a spell of very hot weather will affect England on Thursday. The highest temperatures will be in parts of the east, southeast and the Midlands, where 37 or even 38 Celsius could be reached. This may lead to impacts on transport, infrastructure and health." Besides those vulnerable, the extreme heat is also "likely" to affect the wider population, leading to adverse health effects like sunburn or heat exhaustion. The Met Office has also warned power cuts may occur, while travel delays are possible.
