Turkish investment funds are urging authorities to crack down on unusual trading activity that’s sent some stock prices soaring and has put the nation at risk of exclusion from major equity benchmarks.
Money managers overseeing some of the nation’s largest mutual funds favor tougher measures than those proposed by the Capital Markets Board to combat manipulation, five fund managers told Bloomberg News. These include harsher penalties and curbing hedge fund activity in some instruments, with some of the suggestions discussed in meetings with the regulator, the finance ministry and other government bodies, they said.
