Met Office names areas facing heavy rain on Wednesday as BBC issues verdict While huge swathes of the UK are in drought and face heatwave temperatures this week, Met Office weather forecasters say heavy rain is on the cards for some on Wednesday The Met Office says some parts of the country could see heavy rain tomorrow, despite heatwave conditions sending temperatures above 30C once more. Some parts of the UK are facing their fifth heatwave of the year this week, with the hottest weather expected in southern, central and eastern regions. The Met Office predicts afternoon highs of 33C in London on Wednesday, 32C in Cardiff and Birmingham, with Manchester reaching 29C, Edinburgh hitting 26C, and Belfast at 25C. Thursday is expected to be the warmest day this week. Southern areas could see highs of 38C, whereas the mercury could reach 33C in more northern regions. However before that, heavy rain could come in Northern Ireland and Scotland tomorrow. The Met Office forecast for Wednesday states: “Cloudy in western Scotland and western parts of Northern Ireland with showers, turning heavy at times. A dry and sunny day elsewhere with hot sunshine.” Offering more of a deep dive in this morning’s video forecast, Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir said: “We start with some cloud across Scotland and Northern Ireland [on Wednesday], some showery rain too, particularly across the north as well as the west of Scotland. “One or two showers will drift in across Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and the far north of England. "For the rest of England, it’s a fine start to the day, a dry one with sunny spells. Any showers will be fairly isolated across more northern areas.” BBC Weather forecast BBC Weather’s forecast for tomorrow differs slightly. It suggests there will be “little to no cloud around”, adding: “Tomorrow will be a dry and hot day with plenty of sunshine.” BBC forecaster Matt Taylor says any showers tomorrow will be confined to the "very far north or north west of Scotland". Thursday could then turn “very hot”, the BBC Weather forecast adds. The forecast explains: “Thursday will be largely sunny and dry. A hot day, very hot for some. “Friday will be mostly sunny with a few areas of cloud around in the afternoon. A less hot day, warm for many. Saturday could be partly cloudy to start with long sunny spells developing in the afternoon. A dry day. “
