Foetus remains found next to Lancashire river as police issue urgent plea Officers were called to an area beneath Hodder Bridge on Whalley Road, Stonyhurst, after the shock discovery was made The remains of a foetus have been found near a river in Lancashire with police rushing to close off the scene. The horror discovery was made yesterday afternoon, at around 3.15pm, with officers called to the area beneath Hodder Bridge on Whalley Road, Stonyhurst. An investigation is now underway to establish how the remains came to be at that location. A statement from Lancashire Constabulary reads: "At 3:13pm on Tuesday 11th August we were called to reports of the discovery of remains of a foetus close to the area beneath Hodder Bridge, Whalley Road, Stonyhurst. Officers attended and a scene is currently in place with enquiries ongoing. "We know this is concerning to hear about, and we want to reassure you that a full investigation is underway to determine how the remains came to be at the location they were found." Officers have also appealed for any people who may have witnessed anything unusual in the area between Sunday and Tuesday at 3pm to contact them. Any dashcam footage from drivers travelling over the bridge is also welcome. People can contact 101 quoting incident number 864 of August 11 to report any information. A foetus transitions from the embryo stage after the eleventh week of pregnancy, remaining a foetus until birth. The age of the foetus has not been revealed by the police.
