Tata Investors Turn Focus to Succession, Strategy as Chairman Set to Step Down Good morning... I’m Rajesh Mascarenhas in Mumbai, where all eyes are on Bombay House, the Tata Group’s headquarters, as the conglomerate grapples with a leadership challenge. In an unexpected move, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, said Wednesday that he will step down when his term ends in February 2027, spurring a drop in shares of group companies (more on that below). The broader Nifty 50 benchmark also finished lower, capping a second straight day of declines. Early gains in Asian stocks and lower oil prices today should offer Indian equities some support when trading gets underway. Meanwhile, Tata isn’t the only conglomerate confronting leadership issues. Shares of Godrej Consumer Products plunged to their lowest in more than three years on Wednesday after the firm’s CEO quit just days after being reappointed to the role. Beyond the corporate shake-ups, India’s capital markets may also be in for some changes, with the regulator said to be considering relaxing rules on the so-called small and medium-enterprise platform to encourage more firms to list there.
