Earlier this week he informed his followers they should take action when there's no room left for tin cans and plastic and glass bottles in the recycling bin. While the simple solution might seem to be throwing them in with general waste, for Ashley that's a big no-go. "If your recycling bin is constantly getting full, I suggest you ring your local council," he recommended in a TikTok video. "Most councils - but not all - will probably give you another bin for recycling." It really is that straightforward as he went on to explain: "It's cheaper for them to take recycling away than it is to take general waste away... so put less in your general waste bin or just take it to a recycling centre." Ashley concluded: "Well done for filling your recycling bin up - correctly I'm hoping. You'll probably get given another bin and then it is problem solved. What more do you want?" How to Get an Extra Recycling Bin from Your Local Council Wheelie Bin Solutions shared additional advice online: "if you’ve too much rubbish for your wheelie bin, then make sure you’re only throwing out actual rubbish. "If some of the waste could be placed in another bin, donated or reused, then sort through your waste accordingly. Otherwise, check with your local council or waste management company or take your excess waste to a recycling centre." Why You Should Never Put Black Bags in Recycling Bins Meanwhile, Ashley also explained why black bin bags are often rejected during recycling collections, revealing it comes down to visibility. "We don't know what's in them... black bin bags, we can't see through them, and we're not going to open them and rummage through them," Ashley said. The binman cautioned that, as collectors are unable to see what's inside, black bags are deemed contaminated - which can result in entire bins being left uncollected. Ashley instead urged households to place their recycling items loosely in the bin, without using any black dustbin bags. "Put it all in loose," he added. "Do not put anything in a bag in your recycling bin because it has got a chance of being contaminated and they won't take it." Responding to Ashley's clip, one TikTok user wrote: "In my local council you can have up to three tin bin and three cardboard bin. I currently have 8 bins." A second person commented: "I flatten/squash everything and ordered a second bin in case it still won't fit." While a third added: "This is true, I have three recycling bins."
