The 7.7-magnitude quake hit Indonesia shortly before 5am local time on Saturday, about 68 kilometres north-northwest of Ende. It struck at a depth of 10 kilometres, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said. Following the quake, which struck not far from the coast, the country's Weather, Climate, and Earthquake Information office (BMKG) issued an early tsunami warning. The first, massive tremor was followed by at least two other powerful quakes at 5.9 and 5.6 magnitude respectively, all off the northern coast of Sikka. This is an ongoing event and updates will be provided... Australia's tsunami warning centre has said the quake would have "no tsunami threat to the Australian mainland, islands or territories". The quake's magnitude was initially recorded at magnitude 6.9. It was subsequently upgraded by the EMSC. Social media reports suggest several buildings were damaged in the quake.
