President Murmu approved 78 gallantry awards
NEW DELHI: Govt Friday approved 78 gallantry awards, including 13 posthumous, to defence forces and central armed police forces personnel on the eve of the 80th Independence Day. Paramilitary and police personnel engaged in the successful anti-Maoist operations dominated the police gallantry awards, with 197 of the 301 medals going to officers serving in Left-wing extremism-affected areas.The awards included 9 Kirti Chakras, with 7 given posthumously; 19 Shaurya Chakras, including one posthumous; 36 Sena Medals (gallantry), three Nao Sena Medal and five Vayu Sena Medals. Among police awards, key recipients included IGP Sunderraj Pattilingam, SSP Indira Kalyan Elesela and several Bastar Fighter and District Strike Force personnel.
Two constables from Chhattisgarh were posthumously awarded. CRPF earned 86 medals, the highest among the paramilitary forces, while BSF received 20.J&K police received 51 medals, while 12 went to forces in the north-east. CISF’s IG Harpreet Kaur Sohi and Assistant Commandant (JAO) Mohan S were awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.Commandant Suresh Kumar Shokeen of Delhi Home Guards was awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. tnn
