Xi Urges Shift to Prevention in Disaster Management, Xinhua Says President Xi Jinping called for China to shift disaster management toward prevention, saying safety and resilience should be integrated into planning and development, Xinhua News Agency reported on Saturday. In an article set to appear in the Qiushi Journal on Monday, Xi said China’s disaster prevention, mitigation and relief efforts face evolving challenges that require tighter coordination between economic development and national security, according to Xinhua. He called for enhanced risk monitoring, earlier warning systems and upgraded protection standards for key infrastructure, including flood-control and drainage facilities in northern China.
