The public deserves answers over Nigel Farage’s finances and winning a by-election against a man dressed as a bin doesn’t ‘let him off the hook’, Bridget Phillipson has claimed. The Labour chair accused the Reform UK leader of delivering weeks of “political theatre”, rather than explain the “scandal” of his £5 million “gift” from Thai-based crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne. Since the farcical vote, which saw Mr Farage face off with Count Binface, the Reform chief has not been seen in public, and even failed to show up for the result of the £250,000 contest he triggered. Now Ms Phillipson has warned him nothing has changed, and that Labour won't stop fighting for the truth. Writing for The Mirror, she said: “ Nigel Farage wants this week’s by-election to draw a line under the questions surrounding his and Reform UK's finances. “Spoiler alert: it does not. While he may have won a totally unnecessary by-election, the scandal he’s embroiled in will not magically disappear. Labour will not let him off the hook, because the public deserve to know where the money came from, what it was for, and why it wasn’t declared. “Was it for security? Was it a reward for Brexit? Was it in exchange for something else? It should be a simple question for Farage to answer – yet his story keeps changing.” Just after Mr Farage's hollow victory, it emerged that the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards probe into Mr Farage's £5million gift has resumed. Ms Phillipson, the minister for women and equalities, said Mr Farage could have explained himself, but instead put the people of Clacton through a by-election for no reason. In a firm warning to the former city banker, she said: “Unfortunately for Farage, despite his desperate attempts at distraction, the questions are not going away. “And Labour will not let him off the hook, because the public deserve to know where the money came from, what it was for, and why it wasn’t declared. Time is running out for Nigel Farage and Reform to come clean.” Ms Phillipson mocked Mr Farage over spending his summer “fighting with a bin”, and vowed Labour would keep working to bring back hope. She added: “We know there is more to do.
