UK weather maps plunge to 6C before possible sixth heatwave in September The UK is expected to fast a chilly period at the end of the month before forecasters predict another heatwave to return to the nation at the beginning of September Temperatures are set to plunge in the coming weeks, but Brits won't have to wait long to warm up again. The Met Office says there is a chance for the UK to see further hot periods at the start of next month, with areas in the south most likely to experience heatwave conditions. However, prior to these scorching temperatures, at the end of this month, weather maps show that cold conditions may be on the cards for much of the nation, particularly those in the north. Netweather Maps show that from Saturday, August 29 temperatures will begin to fall, with areas in the North West and Scotland getting as cool as 6C and 7C. This fresh feel will hit in the early hours of Saturday, with Lanarkshire and Dumfriesshire dropping to a harsh 6C at 3am as Northumberland and Cumberland are forecast 7C. Despite the majority of the cool air being felt in the north, in the South West Devon is also likely to start the day at less than 10C. By 6am the south of Scotland could drop even lower to 5C according to the maps, as they turn a deeper green. By midday, temperatures are likely to increase across the nation but remain incomparable to the current record-breaking highs the UK has seen. Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire are forecast 10C temperatures at 12pm. At this time Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire are set to drop to around 9C according to the weather maps. After this, temperatures will rise slightly before the night cools down again, with the warmest area, London, reaching 15C at 9pm. On Sunday, temperatures remain cooler as the Midlands remains at 8C and 9C in the morning. Elsewhere, by 9am, in Inverness-shire and northern Scotland, some areas will plummet to 4C. At 12 pm many areas will remain chilly, including Yorkshire, as the north will see lows of 7C. Temperatures in the afternoon are then forecast to rapidly pick up with Sussex forecast highs of 20C at 3pm. These warm conditions are only expected for a few hours as much of the nation drops to around 10C again by 9pm. Areas in the North East will fall back to 7C as much of the Midlands is forecast 9C temperatures. The crisp conditions will carry over to the next week as Monday morning appears cooler for most areas. A band of cool air will travel across the South Coast of England as the South West across the Brighton are all forecast 9C. At midday, much of the Scottish Highlands will feel very chilly, with the weather maps illustrating the country to fall back to 4C. Areas in the South will climb slightly to 10C, which compared to recent temperatures above 30C, will feel extremely fresh. The maps come as the Met Office's latest long-range forecast, from Saturday, August 29, to Saturday, September 12, says temperatures are "again likely to be above average overall". However, it highlighted that there is still limited confidence over the exact weather pattern. The forecast for the last week of August says: "There is also a chance that deeper Atlantic lows could lead to periods of widespread rain and strong winds at times, while some outbreaks of thunderstorms are also possible."
