My top 10 things to watch Monday, Aug. 17 1. We're tracking for a mixed open to start the new trading week. Dow futures are lower, while the Nasdaq is slightly higher. S & P futures are flat. Oil isn't doing much either. After Friday's disappointing retail sales report , we'll see earnings this week from Walmart , BJ's Wholesale , and Club names Home Depot and TJX Companies . 2. Anthropic's second-quarter revenue was more than $11.5 billion, Bloomberg News reported , a 14-fold increase from a year earlier. The Claude chatbot maker also recorded positive adjusted operating income. Will we get an IPO this fall? Anthropic has reportedly held early meetings with prospective investors. Club name Goldman Sachs is one of the banks leading the IPO. The AI boom is a windfall for the banks . 3. Memory chipmakers like Micron are among the most indispensable companies in the entire AI buildout, and embracing long-term supply agreements helps reduce boom-and-bust risk. That's what I argued in my latest Sunday column for Investing Club subscribers. It's also why Micron is the newest stock in the Club portfolio. What Sandisk had to say at last week's investor day is good news for the whole group . 4. Melius Research's Ben Reitzes boosted his price target on Dell to $650 from $565 ahead of the server maker's earnings report on Sept. 3. Reitzes expects great numbers, thanks to increased shipments of Nvidia's Vera Rubin racks and more-profitable CPU racks. If we hadn't just initiated Micron, perhaps we would be taking a harder look at starting a position in Dell. 5. Cybersecurity stocks are still strong: Analysts at Wells Fargo and TD Cowen both hiked their price targets on Club names CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks . We recently trimmed these because they were running so much. Still believe AI is a huge tailwind for cyber, something Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins made clear last week on the company's earnings call. CrowdStrike reports on Aug. 26 (the same night as Nvidia ). Palo Alto is on Sept. 1. 6. A pair of Workday downgrades, with Deutsche Bank and BTIG both going to hold from buy on valuation concerns. The stock is up over 50% since late July, including a 18% surge last Thursday after Reuters reported that Silver Lake was in talks to buy the enterprise software maker. Despite the downgrades, the worst of the negativity around software is lifted following the Situational Awareness unwind. 7. Piper Sandler initiated SoFi with a buy rating, calling the fintech company a "high-growth personal finance story" with a "powerful product flywheel" to increase adoption. Price target of $22 implies roughly 20% upside from Friday's close. Not convinced. I am beginning to question SoFi's exceptional reputation, as the stock hasn't gone up. Shares are up 2% premarket, but are still down over 30% this year. Too many fintech stocks out there, but Affirm is my favorite of the bunch. 8. Morgan Stanley upped its price target on Klarna to $21 from $18. Not much of a raise, given that it is basically where the stock ended last week. Analysts kept their hold rating, but expect the buy now, pay later company to deliver a second-quarter beat on strong e-commerce results. They argued Klarna needs sustained improvement in credit performance to narrow its valuation gap with Affirm. Again, too many fintechs. 9. Brinker's price target was lifted to $240 from $166 at Piper Sandler, though analysts reiterated their hold rating (for now) on the Chili's parent. They said they may look to be constructive on any pullbacks, noting that the business's momentum may prove sustainable over the long term. CEO Kevin Hochman said on "Mad Money" last week that the secret to Chili's success is its low prices. Similar story over at Texas Roadhouse . 10. Goldman reinstated Etsy with a hold rating and price target of $89. Analysts called the online marketplace a "work in progress" as it pushes to grow sales through search, app, and customer loyalty initiatives. New CEO Kruti Patel Goyal, who is overseeing the turnaround, recently announced a 12% workforce cut . Etsy has recently become a loved stock with other e-commerce players like PayPal and Shopify .
