All students who are under the age of 18 who did not get at least a grade 4 will need to continue studying these subjects. Some sixth forms, colleges or apprenticeships might be flexible about entry requirements, especially if grades were only narrowly missed. Many colleges will allow students to retake GCSEs alongside studying for A level or T levels. Maths and English GCSE resits Maths and English GCSE resit exams take place in November for both AQA and Pearson Edexcel, as well as the standard annual exam dates in May or June which take place each year. Students on a 16 to 19 study programme and do not have a grade 4 or above in either English or maths will have to continue to study GCSE level English and maths. They will not be required to resit the exam as part of this. Some colleges and schools may offer a functional skills qualification in English or maths instead of a GCSE. This is a level 2 qualification based on learning how to apply English or maths in real life. GCSE exam resits costs and prices Many schools, colleges and sixth form centres will allow students to resit their exams for free in the following year from their first attempt, if the grade was below a 4. For those who passed with a Grade 4 or above, but still want to try to get a higher grade they are often charges associated with that. Education centres usually charge between £75 to £150 per exam if they do charge. Private candidates could be charged between £150 to £500 by third party agencies and exam centres. Where to resit GCSE exams For students who have recently left school or are going to Sixth Form the best option is the former school or the sixth form centre they are planning to attend. Further Education colleges will offer some GCSE subjects, particularly English and maths. For those who are not in education there are private exam centres that accept external candidates for exams.
