Police said a two-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital with 'serious injuries' following reports of a collision with an e-bike in Clacton, Essex - an 18-year-old has been arrested
A teenager has been arrested after a two-year-old girl was injured following reports of a collision involving an e-bike.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in Clacton, Essex where the toddler had to be airlifted to hospital following the incident which took place at around 9pm on Thursday.
Essex Police said the collision took place in Pathfields Road. The young girl "sustained serious injuries" and was taken by air ambulance to hospital where she remains.
The force said the rider did not stop following the collision. Police have now arrested an 18-year-old man from Clacton on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been bailed until November 10 while enquiries continue.
A statement from Essex Police read: “Our officers have arrested a teenager in connection with a serious collision in Clacton. We were called to reports of a collision involving an electric bike and a two-year-old pedestrian in Pathfields Road at about 9pm.
“The child sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital by air ambulance where she remains. The rider failed to stop at the scene and our officers quickly launched an investigation to locate them.
“Now, an 18-year-old man from Clacton has been arrested in suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been bailed until 10 November while our enquiries continue.”
Police are appealing for anyone with information or footage that can help with the investigation to get in touch.
