A Massachusetts woman who wrote a book praising police officers for their good deeds on the job is wanted in connection with the death of a cop inside her home.
The Worcester Police Department announced on Facebook Tuesday that it was looking for Karen Solomon, 58, regarding the death of a man at her home. The man who died was a police officer in the department, according to local media.
It’s unclear how the man died, but police warned the public that Solomon may be armed. The Independent has reached out to Worcester Police for comment.
In July 2016, Solomon, who was married to a Worcester police officer at the time, was interviewed by CBS News Boston about her book, Hearts Beneath the Badge, which tells stories of the ways police officers across the country serve their communities.
"My son came home from school one day and he said, 'Mom, why did somebody at school tell me that police kill people for no reason?'" Solomon recalled one of her two children asking her.
"That's when I said, 'You know what? I'm going to write a book and I'm going to tell some stories about all the good things people forget they do.
“They buy meals, they save people's lives, they put themselves in jeopardy,” Solomon said.
Solomon also co-authored The Price They Pay to discuss the physical and mental struggles that police officers experience.
The death investigation stemmed from a domestic incident that occurred at around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Worcester Police told NBC10 Boston.
Locals told CBS News Boston that Solomon and her husband had been in the neighborhood for a long time and they were shocked by what’s unfolding.
Massachusetts State Police are using a helicopter to search the area around Solomon’s home, and a special team is being deployed to comb through the nearby woods, according to CBS Boston’s sources.
There was a large police presence at Solomon’s home Tuesday morning with local and state agencies involved in the hunt, per NBC10 Boston.
Worcester Police said on Facebook that Solomon was last seen walking towards a local street wearing pajama shorts and a tank top.
The department asked the public to call 508-799-8606 or 911 if they see her.
