GCSE results day is finally here – and it's a time full of emotion for teenagers. So if you think you're smarter than a 16-year-old, see if you can solve these 6 maths questions
Preparing for your GCSE exams might feel like a distant memory, but today (August 20) marks a huge moment for millions of students who will pick up their results this morning. While GCSE grade boundaries are not fixed from one year to the next, the anxious wait can be quite nerve-wracking for pupils who are planning post-16 education and training.
Now as results are officially published at 8am across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, if you want to feel like a teenager now, you can try your luck with this tricky 6-question maths quiz. If you think you're smarter than a GCSE student, these questions will require your immediate attention.
On TikTok, user @freegcsemathsteacher, who boasts 2.7million followers, presented the questions to fans which might seem straightforward at first, but will require you to think outside the box.
In the clip, there are 9 maths questions, although we're only sharing the first six below. And if you're not exhausted by the first set of questions, you can attempt the rest on your own.
Questions:
1. Write 180 minutes in hours.
2. Write 0.73 as a percentage.
3. Work out 10 x (3 + 5).
4. Write down a prime number that is between 20 and 30.
5. Find a number that is exactly half way between 7 and 15.
6. Harry is planning a holiday for 7 days. Here are the costs for the holiday for each person:
- Travel = £150
- Hotel = £50 for each day
- Spending money = £250
Work out the total cost of the holiday for 4 people for 7 days.
The remainder of the questions in the GCSE paper involve graphs but you're more than welcome to give them a go – if you're brave enough. Since it was shared, it racked up 18,600 likes and hundreds of comments.
One said: "My brain hurts," while another made a similar comment and added: "I was never good at maths ever." And a third commented: "I had to ask my six-year-old because I couldn't figure it out."
Others, however, didn't think it was even that difficult. One admitted: "I did that in 1 second in my head." And someone else asked: "How do people fail this?"
