Sweden: Several wounded in school sword attack August 21, 2026A person armed with a sword has wounded multiple people at a school in Fagersta in central Sweden, authorities said Friday. "Police have responded to the scene and one person has been taken into custody," a police statement said. Authorities did not specify how many people were injured in the attack. "Police are continuing to work at the scene with a number of different resources. The public is urged to respect the roadblocks and listen to police instructions," the police statement said. Other schools locked down The municipality said police were searching the school premesis and that other schools in the area had been locked down. Meanwhile, public broadcaster SVT reported that ambulances, police cars and a police helicopter were outside the school. Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer told Reuters news agency the government was in close contact with the police following the attack. "We have been informed of a serious incident in Fagersta.
