A teenage boy has undergone surgery after he was allegedly stabbed at Terrigal on the NSW Central Coast on Friday night.
Emergency services were called to a home on Painters Lane about 9:45pm, with paramedics treating the 15-year-old for an alleged stab wound, before he was taken to Gosford Hospital in a critical condition.
Officers with Brisbane Water Police District set up a crime scene, with investigations focusing on two groups of teenagers that were reportedly in the area at the time.
"Those two groups met up in the Terrigal area; they appear to have gone to Painters Lane," Brisbane Water Police District, Detective Chief Inspector John Zdrilic said.
"The reason is unclear as to why they did that, and an incident has occurred which has resulted in the [alleged] stabbing of the 15-year-old male.
"The 15-year-old who was [allegedly] stabbed was there with two mates, and they met up with another group that could have numbered up to five."
Detective Chief Inspector Zdrilic said it is believed at this stage that there was no confrontation between the two groups in Painters Lane.
"[Police are investigating] one, the reason as to why they've gone into Painters Lane and, two, whether there's a previous relationship between these two groups," he said.
"The boy approached a home at Painters Lane to seek help, with residents calling 000.
"It appeared to be a single stab wound to the left side, heavy bleeding. [An] ambulance attended fairly quickly and he was conveyed to Gosford [Hospital]."
Knife warning
Brisbane Water Police District has established a strike force to investigate what led to the alleged stabbing.
Detective Chief Inspector Zdrilic said a weapon has not been found, and investigators are yet to identify a person of interest.
"We're interested in speaking with members of that second group, to assist us with our inquiries," he said.
"Youths walking around the place with knives is not on. We constantly have operations to take knives off the streets.
"One knife out there is one too many, and if you are found in a public place without a lawful reason for a knife, we will take action."
NSW Police has asked anyone with information, CCTV footage or dash-cam footage from the area to come forward.
