The bus was allegedly speeding and lost control before ploughing into the crowd, who were gathered for a ceremony in a village near Lauriya in the Bihar region.
Lauriya’s station house officer Inderjeet Paswan said the crowd had spilled onto the road when the bus lost control and hit them at around around 11pm local time on Friday.
“The gathered crowd spilled onto the road while watch the orchestra show. Suddenly, a speeding bus en route to Bettiah from Gorakhpur lost control and ploughed into the gathering and as a result five people died and two were injured,” the police officer said.
