As competition in the automotive scene heats up, car brands are moving closer to where their customers – and potential customers – work, live and play. Mercedes-Benz is the latest, bringing its Studio concept to Southeast Asia for the first time with Mercedes-Benz Studio Singapore, which opens to the public on Sep 2.
Conceived as a community hub that reaches beyond car enthusiasts, the Studio joins others already established in cities around the world, including Los Angeles, Copenhagen, Rome, Seoul and Tokyo.
These limited-time destinations are shaped by the character of their host cities, with the Singapore edition taking up residence at Gardens by the Bay for a year.
“Singapore’s energy, creativity, and spirit of innovation make it the perfect home for the Studio,” Marcel Luis Mustelier Perez, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Singapore, said at the launch. “We’re bringing the brand closer to the people and the city we serve, while showing where luxury is heading.”
Housed within the Future of Us Pavilion at Gardens by the Bay, near the new IMBA Theatre, the standalone Studio takes on a distinctly local character.
First up is Canvas, an evolving platform for creative expression where Mercedes-Benz models meet art and design through installations and collaborations with local and regional artists. It opens with Liquid Studios Singapore, a specially commissioned digital artwork by Singapore-based Metamo Industries.
Also making its Singapore debut is the all-new GLC 400 4MATIC electric, the electric version of Mercedes-Benz’s globally best-selling GLC. Visitors can get a closer look at the EV and its features, including a redesigned illuminated grille making its first appearance on a Mercedes-Benz model.
At Commune, hospitality, retail and lifestyle concepts take centre stage, with the cafe and social hub furnished by local partners Commune and Stacked Store.
Here, visitors can shop limited-edition merchandise and discover the brand’s latest innovations and product launches, alongside a changing programme of culinary and lifestyle collaborations. This space currently features an opening residency by Ferm, which creates probiotic beverages that reimagine traditional fermentation through a contemporary lens.
Finally, Courtyard offers a communal space designed to inspire discovery and spark conversation by bringing together different communities through immersive installations and interactive activities. The space can adapt to host a dynamic range of events and gatherings with custom-designed modular furniture that doubles as functional seating.
The first community weekend will be held here on the final weekend of August, bringing together Adidas Run Club, cycling lifestyle brand Rapha and wellness collective TUNDRA, alongside creative workshops by Studio Wilt and a live screen-printing experience by Tell Your Children. The event is open to the public and you can register here.
Admission to Mercedes-Benz Studio Singapore is complimentary and no appointment is required. Selected programmes may require advance registration or separate ticketing. Visit Mercedes-Benz Studio Singapore for its latest programme updates.
