A tourist has died as he was walking to seek help after his car got stuck in mud during 46C temperatures.
The incident happened on a remote road in California's Death Valley as Pierre Michel Formosa, 68, was left stranded in the desert with a friend.
The tourists, from France, had no choice but to start walking to seek help but Formosa was soon unable to continue due to the high temperatures.
His friend continued the journey but, by the time assistance arrived, he had died.
