The French couple went on what proved to be a fatal hike in harsh weather conditions despite notices warning of the danger. A 41-year-old French tourist died on Sunday near Balos, in the Chania region of Crete, after collapsing while hiking in high temperatures and intense sunshine. This year's French potato harvest is expected to be particularly challenging. French farmers are warning that they may not be able to deliver the amounts of potatoes set out in contracts.
