Lloyds and Halifax customers given new update over 'change'
Halifax is moving customers to the Lloyds app as part of a major overhaul
Halifax customers have been reassured after moving their online banking across to the Lloyds app.
Clarification that Halifax customers can continue using their cards to pay for shopping after moving their online banking comes as thousands of customers are being moved to Lloyds as part of a major overhaul, which will see the Halifax brand gradually disappear. Responding to a customer on X, Halifax said: “You can still use your Halifax card to pay for shopping after moving your online banking to the Lloyds app. Your card and account details remain unchanged for now.”
The message is likely to reassure customers who may be concerned that moving their banking app could affect their ability to make payments. Halifax has confirmed that account numbers, sort codes, card details and PINs will remain unchanged during the transition. Direct Debits, standing orders and other payments will also continue as normal.
The bank is moving customers across in stages over the coming months. Halifax says customers will be contacted when it is their turn, with an invitation appearing in the Halifax app or online banking and reminders also being sent by email.
Customers do not need to move until they receive the invitation. Once moved, their Halifax accounts will appear in the Lloyds app and can continue to be managed there. Halifax says the Lloyds app works in a similar way to its existing service and customers will be guided through the switch in just a few steps. Existing passwords and memorable information can continue to be used.
The change is part of Lloyds Banking Group’s decision to phase out the Halifax brand and bring its banking operations together under Lloyds. The Halifax app and online banking will eventually close, meaning customers who have not switched will no longer be able to manage their accounts digitally through the old service.
MoneySavingExpert reports that the Halifax app and online banking are due to stop working from October 31, meaning customers need to complete the move before then. Halifax has stressed that the change is a brand and banking-system transition rather than a change to the underlying accounts.
Its official guidance states that account features and benefits remain unchanged for now, while customers’ account numbers, sort codes, card details, PINs and regular payments stay the same.
Customers should also be alert to scammers exploiting the change. Halifax says genuine instructions about the move will begin inside its app or online banking, with further information sent by email or letter. It says it will not ask customers to provide their PIN as part of the transition.
