Police hunt driver as five-car crash near Gateshead stadium sees vehicle flip Police are hunting for a driver who made off from the scene of a massive five-car crash on the Felling Bypass near Gateshead International Stadium yesterday Police are hunting for a driver who made off from the scene of a five-car crash which saw one vehicle flip onto its roof yesterday. The huge crash on the Felling Bypass near Gateshead International Stadium, where Gateshead FC plays its home matches, left one woman needing hospital treatment. The incident took place on Monday afternoon shortly before 2.20pm with the driver of one of the cars fleeing the scene of the crash before cops arrived, according to police. The woman's injuries were not said to be life-threatening and police said yesterday the cause of the crash had not yet been established, Chronicle Live reports. Officers have also appealed for witnesses to come forward - especially those who have dash-cam footage. A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Just before 2.20pm today (Monday), we received a report of a road traffic collision in Gateshead. It was reported that, for reasons yet to be established, five cars had collided in the area of Park Road, which resulted in one of the vehicles turning onto its roof. "Emergency services attended and found one woman, aged in her 40s, had sustained injuries not believed to be life-threatening. She was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. "The driver of one of the vehicles made off from the scene on foot ahead of officers arriving. Enquiries are ongoing to locate them. A section of Park Road is currently closed while the vehicles are being recovered. Road users are advised to seek an alternative route. "Anyone with information should contact us via direct message on social media or submit a report form on our website. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and may have dash cam footage of the incident. Please quote the following reference number: NP-20260824-0486." A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 2.20pm on Monday 24 August to reports of a road traffic incident on the Felling Bypass near Burlison Gardens, Gateshead. We dispatched an ambulance crew, a clinical team leader, and two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene. One patient was taken to the QE hospital for further treatment.” A force spokesperson today confirmed that police were still seeking the driver who made off from the scene and investigations were still ongoing.
