Cleveland Police yesterday said a "wide-scale investigation into the criminality which took place prior to the fatal crash" had been launched, and had resulted in 12 arrests. Five more people have now been arrested on suspicion of various offences, including a 23-year-old man on suspicion of threats to kill, and a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of participating in an organised crime group. The three others arrested are an 18-year-old man on suspicion of participating in an organised crime group, a 21-year-old man on suspicion of participating in an organised crime group, and a 55-year-old man on suspicion of assisting an offender. The collision took place in the early hours of Saturday and involved two officers and five other people who were all killed seconds after a police pursuit had been abandoned. The five people, aged between 17 and 23, were in a Volkswagen Passat that was being driven the wrong way on the A66. The car crashed with a police car which was going the right way, killing Cleveland Police PC Tom Clough, 38, and PC Matthew Blades, 37. The five individuals in the Passat have been named as Jakub Matusiak, 23, Cole Robert Worthy, 17, Theo Rae, 17, Makai Saddington, 18, and 23-year-old Michael Robert Cahill.
