Angelynn Mock, who once anchored KTVI Fox 2, was arrested the same day after killing her 80-year-old mom inside their home in Wichita, Kansas. Anita Avers was found with multiple stab wounds at around 7.50 a.m. and pronounced dead less than an hour later in hospital, Wichita Police Department said at the time. She had sustained stab wounds to her face, neck, torso and arms. Mock told police said she had gone into her mother’s room that morning and found Avers sharpening knives, according to probable cause affidavit obtained by KSN. The older woman tried to attack her and chased her daughter round the house while “spewing venom out of her f***ing mouth,” Mock claimed. “I had to kill her, she wasn’t going to stop,” Mock said, per the affidavit, claiming her mother was “jealous” of a job opportunity that had come up. Later in a police interview room, Mock began talking to herself, the document said. “I’d kill that bi*** to have my mom back any day,” she said, per the affidavit. “I don’t even know who she is anymore. I know, I believe she’s the devil.” The former news anchor’s stepfather Barry Avers told police Mock had previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, before that was revised to schizoaffective disorder. According to the affidavit, the stepfather said he believed Mock had been on medication and was close with her mom. He also claimed she had been laid off from her job as a news anchor following an incident involving alcohol. In January, Mock was deemed incompetent to stand trial, according to Sedgwick County District Court documents reviewed by Oxygen.com. However, in late July, that motion was reversed. Mock pleaded guilty to first-degree murder at an evidentiary hearing on Friday and is due to be sentenced on October 5, KSN TV reports. Mock was a full-time anchor on KTVI Fox 2 in St Louis from March 2011 until February 2015, according to her LinkedIn page, having previously worked in a number of reporting positions. By May 2015, she began working in a sales role and continued to work in other business-related positions. On her profile, she says that she “transitioned into sales because of the many similarities the two roles encompass.”
