Preliminary information suggested the plane may have been backing up when the victim was hit, according to local police. The accident occurred shortly before an aircraft due to fly to Paris had been scheduled to take off. A horrified passenger told Radio Canada of the moment she saw a man go under the plane while it was moving. She reported panicked scenes on board, adding: “Many were screaming.” Yves Beauchamp, President and Chief Executive Officer of Montréal Airport said: “The loss of a member of our airport community affects us all deeply. During this difficult time, our thoughts are with the employee’s family, loved ones and colleagues, to whom we extend our heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences." The case has reportedly been passed to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) which will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The plane, from the low-cost, long-haul Paris-based airline French Bee, had been due to take off at 6am but was delayed until after midnight, Radio Canada reported. A French Bee spokesperson said on Monday: “The precise circumstances of the incident have not yet been established. “French Bee is cooperating fully with Canadian authorities and the various parties involved to help establish the facts. “The airline's immediate priority is caring for those affected by the incident and supporting its passengers and crew.”
