Sydney woman pleads guilty to 'macabre' manslaughter of husband

A Sydney woman has pleaded guilty to her husband's manslaughter in a case police previously described as "bizarre". A Sydney woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter over the death of her husband, in a case police previously described as "macabre" and "bizarre" due to how they suspected she had disposed of his remains. WARNING: This story contains graphic content that some readers may find upsetting. Mamdouh Noufl was reported missing in July 2023. The 62-year-old had not been seen since May of that year. His wife, Nirmeen Noufl, was arrested and charged in October 2024 as police officers searched their home in Greenacre. The now 55-year-old was due to face a Supreme Court murder trial this week, but on Monday a judge was told that the matter had "resolved", subject to agreement, and the case was adjourned. Appearing on an audio-visual link on Wednesday, Noufl pleaded not guilty to murdering her husband on or about May 3, 2023. "I plead guilty to manslaughter in the alternative," she said. The Crown told Justice Peter Hamill the plea was accepted. A sentence hearing has been scheduled for mid-September. After Noufl's arrest, Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said it would be alleged she had "butchered and dismembered" her husband's body, placed his remains in plastic bags, and disposed of them in rubbish bins in south-west Sydney. He alleged there had been an "extensive clean-up" and re-flooring of the Greenacre home, describing the case as "brutal", "macabre" and "bizarre".
