Birmingham floods LIVE: Emergency services dispatched as cars 'stranded' near Asda Firefighters, police officers, and council staff are at the scene of the floods - and warned the public to 'avoid the area' affected by floods, near a major park north of the city centre Firefighters, police officers and council staff have been dispatched to 'deal with significant flooding' in Birmingham. Emergency services are currently on-scene on multiple busy roads near Perry Park, a large park north of the city centre. West Midlands Fire Service [WMFS] made its announcement at 11:20pm on Wednesday evening (August 26). Images on social media show cars becoming 'stranded' in floodwater. One post said there was flooding on Queslett Road, around three miles from the area emergency services have been sent to. A statement from WMFS said: " We currently have six crews dealing with a significant flooding affecting Curbar Road, Thornbridge Avenue and Haddon Road, Birmingham. "Crews are being supported by West Midlands Police and Birmingham City Council. Please avoid the area, where possible." This is a live news event. Please check below for the latest updates. Birmingham council has issued a statement on this incident a few hours ago, confirming it was aware of the flooding in parts of the city. A spokesperson said: "West Midlands Fire Service are currently receiving numerous calls for flooding. The fire service advise is for people to vacate the property and to contact Floodline.
