The plane crashed into the water outside the Kenai Peninsula community of Seldovia in Alaska on Wednesday, August 26. The lagoon is nearby to Seldovia’s airport and the plane submerged roughly 17 feet into the water, according to Clint Johnson, Alaska region chief for the National Transportation Safety Board. The incident took place at around 2.45pm with Alaska State Troopers attempting to rescue people believed to be trapped on board. Prior to the arrival of the emergency services, Johnson said people at the scene attempted to reach the plane and rescue anybody inside but could not get to the aircraft.
