The body of a woman has been found in the sea off the coast of Llandudno in north Wales.
The alarm was raised at around 10.30am on Wednesday, prompting a response from police, coastguard and RNLI lifeboat crews. An HM Coastguard helicopter was also scrambled to the scene.
The woman’s body was recovered from the water off the West Shore side of the Great Orme and taken by an RNLI crew to the lifeboat station in Conwy, where police set up a cordon to keep members of the public away, North Wales Live reports.
An RNLI spokesperson said: "We can confirm that at 10:45am this morning (26 August 2026), Conwy RNLI’s D class inshore lifeboat was launched and a casualty was recovered from the water by the volunteer crew and transferred to Conwy Lifeboat Station."
A Coastguard spokesperson said: "HM Coastguard sent an HM Coastguard helicopter, a Coastguard Rescue Team, and an RNLI lifeboat to an incident at Gogarth Bay, Llandudno, reported at about 10.40am on 26 August."
The Mirror has launched the Save Lives For Sam water safety campaign to tackle the UK's growing drowning crisis. Backed by MPs, Olympic champions, national water safety organisations and bereaved families, the campaign is calling for urgent action to make our waters safer.
That includes compulsory water safety lessons in schools, a nationwide public awareness campaign, better lifesaving equipment at high-risk waterways, the introduction of Sam's Law, and a dedicated Minister for Water Safety. Find out more about the campaign and how you can support it here.
