Alienware AW3926QW Review: 39 Inches of Gaming Glory

Ultrawide OLED monitors are amazing, but they’re often a bit lacking in sharpness.
Your choice has been to either accept the lower resolution these panels come with or upgrade to a massive 45-inch 5K panel, which is way too large for most desks (and comes with a much higher price tag).
Alienware’s AW3926QW offers a solution. It has a 39-inch 5K2K panel that provides a roughly 30 percent improvement in pixel density over the 34-inch alternatives. It also ships at a more tolerable (if still not affordable) price near $1,100. While a few annoyances remain, the AW3926QW will definitely appeal to gamers who want a bigger, sharper OLED ultrawide.
Sizing Up
Size and sharpness are the AW3926QW’s most important traits. The monitor has other features, which we’ll get into, but these basic characteristics set the AW3926QW apart from most OLED monitors available.
Let’s talk size first. As a 39-inch ultrawide monitor, the AW3926QW is already unique. Thirty-four inches (measured diagonally) is the standard size for ultrawide monitors, and Alienware has been a pioneer in that space since the launch of the AW3423DW in 2022. Forty-five-inch models have been introduced, but they're reserved for those who really want something almost TV-like on their desk. The AW3926QW nestles right in between, though, with a 39-inch panel—still at a 21:9 aspect ratio. Gamers who want a big display but don’t have room for a 45-inch model aren’t going to be happy with a 34-inch alternative, which looks tiny by comparison. The AW3926QW fills that gap perfectly, still offering an impressively large screen to game on.
It’s not the first to use this size (a handful of 39-inch OLED monitors with 3440 x 1440 resolution exist), but in my mind, it's the first to do it the right way. The larger the screen, the more those pixels get stretched out. You need an actual increase in pixels if you want to retain the same clarity. And that's where the Alienware AW3926QW takes a big step forward.
The panel’s resolution is 5120 x 2160, and the latter of those two numbers is key. It means the AW3926QW’s vertical resolution is equivalent to a 4K widescreen with 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, which in turn means you can view 4K content at its full resolution. That’s not possible on an ultrawide with 3,440 x 1,440 resolution.
As mentioned, some 45-inch OLED ultrawides also offer 5K2K resolution. Because they’re physically larger, however, they’re not quite as sharp as the AW3926QW.
OLED Perks Apply
Size and resolution are the AW3926QW’s distinctive traits, but the AW3926QW offers many less distinctive advantages that, though shared with many OLED monitors of various sizes, are still impressive.
Contrast is fantastic across the board. The AW3926QW can hit a perfect minimum luminance of zero nits, which means it provides an essentially infinite contrast ratio. Dark scenes provide a deep, inky black level yet also display excellent shadow detail.
The AW3926QW has an RGB stripe tandem OLED panel produced by LG. At the moment, it’s one of just two ultrawide monitors to offer the panel, which is also available from LG’s UltraGear Evo GX9. I recently tested the 27-inch Asus PG27UCWM, another RGB Strip OLED that I was impressed by, but it's a standard 16:9 aspect ratio rather than ultrawide. RGB Stripe OLED panels use a different sub-pixel array to produce better color performance at high brightness and sharper text.
The AW3926QW is bright for an OLED monitor. It quotes a maximum SDR brightness of 300 nits, which my testing confirmed. HDR, meanwhile, is quoted at a peak brightness of 1,300 nits. I didn’t manage to hit that, but I did record a peak brightness up to 1,011 nits, which is at the upper end of what the best OLED monitors can deliver.
Color performance is excellent. The color gamut spans 99 percent of DCI-P3 and 93 percent of AdobeRGB. These are excellent figures and comparable to the best OLED monitors on the market. Color accuracy was high. The monitor’s color performance isn’t just excellent for games; many creative professionals will also find it sufficient for work.
Meanwhile, the AW3926QW’s price of roughly $1,100 isn’t inexpensive, but it’s a lot less than the LG Ultragear Evo GX9, which debuted at an MSRP near $1,800 and currently retails around $1,600. So, what’s the catch?
It’s not connectivity. The AW3926QW has two HDMI 2.1 inputs, one DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 input, and one USB-C input that also supports DisplayPort 2.1 and provides 90 watts of power delivery. All of the video inputs can handle the monitor’s maximum resolution and refresh rate.
The monitor has a lot of downstream connectivity, too. It includes three downstream USB-A ports with a 5-Gbps data rate. You’ll also find a single downstream USB-C port with the same data rate and support for up to 15 watts of power delivery. A 3.5-mm audio jack rounds out the connectivity options.
Some Cost Cutting
The Alienware’s lower price is more evident in the monitor’s look and build quality.
As I’ve put on record across multiple reviews, I’m not a fan of Alienware’s current design language. I think it’s too basic and demure for the Alienware brand. Aside from the AW3926QW’s curved design, which is noticeable even at a glance, nothing about the monitor stands out. Even the curve is not that remarkable, as most ultrawide monitors are curved.
While I don’t like the look of the monitor, it’s a stretch to say it’s a problem. You’re not going to open the box and gasp in horror at the hideous sight you behold. On the contrary, the monitor’s design is inoffensive. Even boring.
I have a nitpick about the stand’s operation, however. It offers up to 4.3 inches of height adjustment, which is useful. However, the stand is a little too flexible. It allows the display to slightly wobble and shake while typing, though only at the upper end of the monitor’s height adjustment. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it could be better.
Motion clarity is this monitor's other sore spot. The Alienware AW3926QW offers a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz at native resolution. That’s not bad, but most modern 34-inch ultrawides hit 240 Hz, and some can hit 360 Hz. Most are less expensive as well.
Don’t get me wrong. The AW3926QW’s motion clarity remains excellent if it’s compared broadly to, say, all monitors to have ever existed in history. Small objects are often legible, scenes maintain detail during quick camera pans, and motion blur is often easy to miss. But it would be incorrect to suggest there’s no meaningful difference between a 165-Hz and a 360-Hz display. I’ve reviewed many of them, and I find the difference is obvious. Does a 165-Hz OLED look crisp in motion? Yes. Is 360 Hz clearly, distinctly, obviously better? Yes.
Alienware tries to mitigate the problem with a trick that many high-end gaming monitors now support: a lower display resolution mode with a higher refresh rate. The AW3926QW can hit a refresh rate up to 330 Hz if you reduce the resolution to 2,560 x 1,080. Unfortunately, 2,560 x 1,080 resolution is terribly dull on a 39-inch display. It works out to a pixel density only a hair better than a 32-inch 1080p widescreen, which is dismal for any computer monitor sold in 2026.
Personally, I don’t mind the 165-Hz refresh rate despite the fact that I can notice the difference, but I usually play RPGs and strategy games. Players who enjoy competitive esports titles, or who otherwise want the best motion clarity and fluidity possible, could find the 165-Hz refresh rate too low for their liking.
Walking the Line
The year isn’t over, but the Alienware AW3926QW already looks like one of the best new monitors of 2026. That’s not because it’s a game-changing monitor on its own merit (though I do think it’s very good), but instead because it fills a gap in the ultrawide monitor market.
The existing 34-inch OLED ultrawides with 3,440 x 1,440 resolution are in many ways fantastic, but they’re not all that large or sharp. Forty-five-inch ultrawides deliver the immersion and sharpness that the 34-inch alternatives lack, but they’re often too large to fit on a conventional desk, and they’re extremely expensive.
Alienware’s AW3926QW walks the line between these options. It’s big but not too big. It’s sharp but not too expensive. And it otherwise retains the perks that gamers have come to expect from OLED monitors, aside from a small hit to the refresh rate. Highly competitive gamers should look elsewhere, but gamers looking for big-screen immersion should put the AW3926QW on their short list.
