The Jet2 flight was at 35,000ft when it broadcast the emergency “squawk 7700” code - the international signal for a general emergency. The plane, Flight LS1473, had departed London Stansted Airport at 8.10am today bound for Ibiza when it declared the emergency around an hour into the flight. The 27-year-old Boeing 737-800 plane was forced to make an abrupt U-turn over northern France after sending the emergency broadcast. The pilots executed an unscheduled 180-degree turn and headed towards Paris, flight tracking data shows. The aircraft then made a rapid descent as air traffic controllers prioritised it for an emergency landing at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport shortly before 11am. The plane involved is a Boeing 737-800, a twin-engine narrow-body airliner registered as G-JZHF. The aircraft first entered service in 1999 and before joining Jet2’s fleet it previously flew with other carriers including Dutch low-cost airline Transaviam, AirLive reports. The nature of the emergency has not yet been officially confirmed by Jet2 - the Mirror has reached out to the airline for a comment. Emergency ground crews and airport emergency services at Paris Charles de Gaulle were alerted and positioned on standby ahead of the plane’s arrival. The flight touched down on runway 27L at Paris CDG and according to the latest information the airline is planning to resume the flight from Paris to Ibiza soon.
