UK weather maps show 11 areas Met Office says will face heavy rain on Tuesday - see full list The Met Office says a band of rain will sink southwards throughout Tuesday with large swathes of Northern Ireland and Scotland, such as Dumfries and Galloway to be worst hit Heavy downpours will sweep south across large sections of the UK on Tuesday. Weather maps issued by the Met Office show a band of rain barrelling across the country, adding further misery to regions hit by downpours across the weekend. With a handful of flood alerts still in place, including for the River Maun in Nottinghamshire and the River Salwarpe in Worcestershire, forecasters are concerned about the new wave of low pressure. Parts of Birmingham experienced flooding last week following the first significant rainfall in several weeks. Communities in the Perry Barr and Great Barr areas continue today their clean-up effort after the storms. The mercury hit 24.6C in parts of the Southeast of England on Sunday, but temperatures are expected to dip on Tuesday. It will be 20C for most of the country, colder in areas likely to be worst hit by the downpours. And the Express reports Wednesday morning will be wet too, especially across Northern Ireland and parts of west Wales. The weather maps here, though, display a blue hue for most of Scotland, which will bear the brunt of Tuesday's rain. The Met Office's Tuesday forecast states: "Dry and settled across much of England and Wales, with variable amounts of cloud. Cloudier elsewhere, with a band of rain affecting Scotland, which will sink southwards during the day." This band of rain follows showers over the weekend. More than 32mm fell across Perth and Kinross in Scotland on Sunday, which is nearly half the average rainfall for a typical August altogether. Kathryn Chalk, meteorologist with the Met Office said: "To end Monday, the showers will soon start easing and fading away as we end at the night. So clear spell developing across England and Wales, across Scotland, showery outbreaks of rain moving through, similar picture across Northern Ireland as well. And here, temperatures around 14 or 15 degrees. "Somewhat fresher across England and Wales, lows of 11 or 12. That leads to a bright start, though, across England and Wales into Tuesday. But across Scotland, that's where we have this front, sinking its way south and eastwards. "So bring some heavier spells of rain, and that just stalls to bring a focus for rain across a central part of Scotland, Northern Ireland, seeing a few showers, but mixed in with some sunny spells, a similar picture towards the west, best of the dry weather, towards the far east. Temperatures up at around 23 degrees in the southeast, but cooler behind this front are only 15 degrees in the far north of Scotland." Meteorologist Nick Finnis from Netweather.tv wrote in his weather blog: "Cloud thickening across western Scotland and Northern Ireland tonight, bringing some showery rain, otherwise, most places becoming dry with clear spells. "Tuesday will be mostly dry and settled with variable amounts of cloud across England and Wales. However, a band of rain along a cold front, locally heavy and persistent, will sink southwards across Scotland throughout the day, while Northern Ireland will see showers. "Temperatures similar to today, 15-19C for Scotland and Northern Ireland, 20-22C across England and Wales."
