Baby girl survives devastating A30 crash which killed mum during family holiday Caitlin Saunders, 28, was travelling from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, to Devon with her 11-month-old daughter when their car was involved in a single-vehicle collision on the A30 A young mum was killed in a horrific crash while heading to a family holiday with her 11-month-old baby - who miraculously survived. Caitlin Saunders, 28, was making the journey from her home in Milton Keynes to Devon with her baby when their car was involved in a catastrophic single-vehicle collision. Caitlin, who was a front-seat passenger in a grey Cupra Formentor, was pronounced dead at the scene, an inquest has heard. Remarkably, her baby daughter came through the crash unscathed. The driver, another family member, suffered minor injuries in the crash on Saturday August 8. Devon and Cornwall Police closed the A30 for several hours while officers conducted an investigation. They are still appealing for witnesses to the smash, which just involved the family's Cupra Formentor. An inquest into Caitlin's death was opened at Exeter Coroners' Court on 25 August. Her devastated family have since paid tribute to the young mum, describing her as a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend. They have publicly shared photographs on both Caitlin and her child. Caitlin's aunt Karen Saunders said: "There are simply no words to describe the devastation the family is facing." She described Caitlin as "known and loved by so many people" and said the pain of losing her was "impossible to put into words". She went on to say that the family's "only comfort" was the little girl Caitlin had left behind. The tot is set to turn one next month – a landmark moment her mum will never be there to celebrate. Karen said: "[She] turns one next month. Her first birthday should be a day filled with love, laughter and memories made with her mummy. Instead, it will be the first of so many milestones that Caitlin will never get to witness." Caitlin's family have since launched a GoFundMe appeal to cover funeral costs and create a fund for the child. The fundraiser had collected more than £11,000 by 28 August.
