'No action' against Chris Ellison, MinRes after regulator ends tax probe

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission says it will not impose penalties against WA miner Mineral Resources and its billionaire boss Chris Ellison after an investigation into alleged tax evasion. MinRes has been under scrutiny after Mr Ellison failed to disclose a financial interest he held in an offshore company that was one of his suppliers. Separately, investors have filed a class action suit in Victoria's Supreme Court against Mr Ellison and the company.

Portugal: Kiala aims to bring Black authors from the margins to the heart of publishing

The imprint founded by Elga Fontes entered the market in May to tackle the lack of Black authors and show their work goes beyond racism, discrimination or suffering. In 2026 it will publish two books and already has its 2027 list agreed. Kiala (source in Portuguese) was born from an idea that had been on Elga Fontes' mind for years: creating room in the Portuguese publishing market for Black authors.

Key interest rate hits 15-year high, affecting all Australians

The yield of the Australian government's 10-year bond has climbed to a 15-year high, in a worrying sign for Australian borrowers. The bond is an IOU, with the buyer of that particular bond receiving fixed payments for money lent to the Australian government for a decade, but now bonds are being sold off due to market concerns about inflation. Japanese, British and US government bond yields have also surged, demonstrating growing global concern about debt and inflation.
