Aggies QB Reed rips Texas: 'You gotta hate them'

Texas A&M star Marcel Reed has been on the losing end of two rivalry games with Texas, and the Heisman Trophy hopeful is looking for some payback this season. Reed discussed his disdain for the rival Longhorns in a wide-ranging interview earlier this year with USA Today Sports. "We don't like Texas, I don't like Texas," Reed told USA Today, which published its profile about the junior quarterback on Tuesday. According to USA Today, the interview with Reed took place in April. The Longhorns and Aggies have since been projected as the top two teams in the SEC, ranking fifth and eighth, respectively, in the Associated Press preseason poll. Reed, who is entering his third season as Texas A&M's starter, told USA Today that "you gotta hate" Texas and even called out the school's trademark colors. "I hate the color orange," he said. "The colors just look so ugly. Everywhere you go [in Austin], you see that color orange. Burnt orange? Who likes burnt orange? "Texas, it's the rival, bro. You gotta hate them." Reed ranked fourth in the SEC in passing last season, finishing with 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while adding 493 rushing yards and six scores. But he struggled in the regular-season finale against Texas and in the Aggies' CFP playoff loss against the Miami Hurricanes, throwing a combined four interceptions and zero touchdown passes. Texas A&M also lost to Texas with Reed under center in 2024, when the rivals met in College Station. The Longhorns handed the Aggies their first loss of the season last November with a 27-17 victory in Austin. "It sucks that we've lost to them twice," Reed said. "But they're coming here this year, so they're gonna have to pay. I've got something for them, for sure." Texas A&M will host Texas on Nov. 27 in the regular-season finale for both teams.
