Take our poll and have your say Rumours have swirled that the Duchess of Sussex is ‘in talks’ for a new acting role, eight years after stepping away from her career as an actress Meghan Markle has moved back to the UK, along with her husband Prince Harry and their children Archie and Lilibet, as the family start a new chapter back in Britain for an ‘extended stay’. Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, are believed to be enrolled in UK schools to start the new year in the coming days, while the Duke of Sussex will focus more of his time on his charity projects based in his home country. The Duchess of Sussex will continue running her As Ever lifestyle brand, which is still based in California, but it is rumoured that she is ‘in talks’ for a new acting role. Meghan is believed to be ‘in talks’ for a role in the Netflix show The Gentlemen, which is filmed in the Cotswolds - where the Sussexes are rumoured to be living - and has been confirmed for a third season. The Guy Ritchie crime show, which stars Theo James in the lead role, is about a British Duke who unexpectedly inherits his father’s country estate and discovers it is home to a cannabis empire run by notorious criminals. Talks have been said to be at an early stage, with a role reportedly being written just for Meghan, meaning it is unclear how many episodes she would appear in. Before Meghan married into the Royal Family, she had a successful acting career, most notably starring in the legal drama series Suits as paralegal Rachel Zane for seven seasons. The Duchess starred on the show from 2011 before being written out of the show in 2018 before she tied the knot with Harry. After the Duke and Duchess quit their royal roles in 2020 and moved to California, Meghan seemed to have no interest in returning to acting, as she told Variety in 2022: “I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.” However, a source close to Meghan told People magazine that she has been planning her potential return to acting for ‘quite some time’. Meghan has made a few on-screen appearances in recent years, from her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, as well as a cameo as herself in the film Close Personal Friends, which has yet to be released. Meghan was spotted on the set of the film in November 2025, with a source telling People she appeared “very relaxed and happy”, as they added: “She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth.” Professor Jonathan Shalit, chairman of InterTalent Rights Group, believes Meghan can “do whatever she wants to do” following the move back to the UK, as he explained: “If she wants to return to acting, I have absolutely no doubt there would be interest in her. “If Meghan decided tomorrow that she seriously wanted to act again, directors and producers would absolutely want to meet her and audition her. Would she automatically be handed every role she wanted? Of course not. Nobody is. But would the doors open? Absolutely.” The idea of the Duchess returning to acting has many royal watchers intrigued about her potential next move, as PR expert Mayah Riaz has encouraged the career change for Meghan, as she told the Mirror she has the chance to build a profile outside the Royal Family if she chooses the right project. Mayah said: “A return to acting could actually be quite interesting for Meghan because it would take her back to an identity that existed before the Royal Family." She added: "There can be something quite powerful about returning to an old profession rather than constantly trying to invent a new one. It could allow people to see Meghan as an actress again, rather than exclusively as the Duchess of Sussex.”
