Donald Trump doubles down on Harry and Meghan and says they’ve been 'terrible to William' Just hours after Donald Trump reignited his war of words with Prince Harry and Meghan by saying he was happy they left the US, he took aim at the Sussexes again Donald Trump has doubled down on his criticism of Prince Harry and Meghan and claimed they’ve been ‘terrible’ to Prince William. The US president has launched a fresh swipe on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex just hours after saying he was happy they had left the United States and returned to the UK, adding he “wouldn’t have taken them back”. In his latest rant, he accused Meghan of having a “horrible influence on her British husband” and alleged they had done “too many horrible things”. It comes after a war of words has lingered between the US leader and the Sussexes ever since they quit their royal roles in 2020. In a new interview with GB News, he said: “I think that what she [Meghan] has done and him [ Prince Harry ], he wrote a book that was very terrible to William; it was terrible. “The things he said, I wouldn't... I mean, it's just me. I'm sure I'm wrong on this, but I would not have taken him back. I would have never spoken to him again.” Trump also boasted of his friendship with the King and added: “If I were King Charles, I would not take them back. There's too much. He was here a couple of months ago; everybody loved him in America. He spoke in front of Congress; everybody loved him. He's a fantastic guy. "And he's been a friend of mine for a long time. I knew him as Prince Charles, I know him as King Charles, and he's amazing and he's fighting through a very tough situation with his health, and very few people would have that bravery to do what he's done." It comes just hours after he spoke to reporters in the White House, where he said he was "not a fan" of the pair. In recent years, Trump has lashed out several times at the Sussexes over their decision to quit the Firm in 2020, with the president launching a series of scathing attacks on both of them. When Harry and Meghan were in the midst of moving to the US, speculation was mounting over who would fit the bill for the Sussexes' security, and Trump was adamant it would not be the US government. He tweeted in March 2020: "I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S.; however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!" In 2024, Harry found himself in the centre of a row over his visa, which allows him to live in California. After admitting to using marijuana, cocaine and psychedelic mushrooms in his controversial memoir Spare, a lawsuit from the conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation argued that the US Government should release records about the Duke's US visa application to show whether his drug use was disclosed. Before a ruling was made in the case, Mr Trump raged at the Biden administration for maintaining the privacy of Harry's immigration application in order to "protect Harry." He told the Express US : "I wouldn't protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That's unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me." Meanwhile, more recently, Harry hit back at claims made by Trump in January this year that NATO soldiers didn't serve on the frontlines of Afghanistan. The Duke of Sussex, a former soldier who served in Afghanistan, made an emotional appeal to remember the sacrifices made by allies who "answered the call" in aid of the US. His statement came following comments from the President - a known draft-dodger - that were branded "insulting and frankly appalling".
