Met Office forecasts temperatures to drop within days across 57 areas of UK - full list Temperatures are set to be below the average for this time of year across much of the UK next week Large parts of the UK are set for a dramatic change in temperatures as forecasts predict colder than average temperatures next week. Although meteorological autumn got underway from September 1, the coming weekend is expected to be warm with temperatures in the high 20s on Sunday. However, the Met Office is warning temperatures will drop back after the brief spell of warm weather. September 7 to 14 looks cooler than average, particularly across northern areas. In the update on the Met Office Youtube channel meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth said: “Temperatures are set to climb to the high 20s, but it’s pretty much a one-day only affair.” The warmer air isn’t expected to stick around, with conditions turning cooler again as low pressure pushes in. The forecaster explained: “It turns cooler again when we get more of a low pressure push in from the north. The meteorologist said: “After an anomalous warm day on Sunday, next week actually looks cooler than average across many northern areas and pretty close to average for early September across southern areas.” She added that the UK is in for a 'bumpy run' of conditions, with temperatures swinging as weather fronts move through: “It’s going to be quite changeable temperature-wise throughout the next 10 days.” Before the temperatures change, northern parts of the UK are set for a windy weekend, which could carry on into the start of next week. The strongest winds look most likely across northern and northwestern areas at times. The Met Office forecaster said: “We could see gusts of around 40 mph across some northern areas on Friday afternoon.” Looking ahead to Sunday, she added there is “the potential for quite a breezy day”, with model guidance showing “some inland gusts of around 40 miles per hour” across parts of northern England, southern Scotland and northwestern Scotland.
