The new Dyson CameraJet has just launched, retailing for £419.99, which brushes, flosses and mouth-washes in one, with the help of a camera.
After Rebecca Astill gave her verdict on the gadget, we asked Telegraph readers for their views and whether Dyson can convince them to trade in their old faithfuls.
They share the toothbrushes they swear by, from manual to electric models, and whether they see any reason to upgrade. Here’s what they had to say.
Why readers are unconvinced
The majority of readers seem unconvinced by the CameraJet, with John arguing that a toothbrush and a smartphone “sounds like two accidents waiting to happen. Squirted in the eye with mouthwash as you drop the phone down the toilet”.
“It’s just a useless gimmick,” argues reader Donald Mckie, a retired NHS dentist. “The average patient wouldn’t have a clue what they would be looking at in their mouth on a phone screen,” he adds.
“Dyson as a brand is an aspiration for many but I don’t know how this appliance would improve anyone’s oral health.”
In his view, “the tank for the mouthwash at 12.5ml is far too small, the industry average will be somewhere near 250-300ml” to last long enough and successfully dislodge sticky plaque.
He also questions the picture quality of the camera with water spray, saliva, lips, facial hair and toothpaste in the way. “People nowadays will expect pin sharp detail, which I doubt this will deliver.”
