Irish boxing icon Katie Taylor headed into retirement exactly how she wanted: beating Flora Pili in front of 80,000 fans at Croke Park. The 40-year-old became the undisputed champion for the third time after her decision win over Pili to leave the sport on top.
The Bray icon, who was a top football prospect long before boxing greatness, emerged triumphant over 10 rounds to once again complete her set of titles at super lightweight. She'll vacate the belts as she rides into the sunset with a 26-1 record, her only coming against Chantelle Cameron in 2023, a defeat she later avenged.
It's a case of no rest for the wicked, however, as 'KT' has plenty in her personal life to keep her busy. Mirror Sport examines Taylor's romantic history and current marriage status as she prepares for the next phase of life now that she's hung up her gloves.

Love life
Taylor has gone to great lengths to keep her love life private over the years. Speaking to The Athletic in 2022, she confirmed questions about her relationship status are the ones that frustrate her most as a celebrity.
"Probably the question about relationships," she said at the time. "That’s another question people always ask. I guess people are just interested in my personal life. I get it all the time. It’s a bit annoying at times but I’m just polite and get on with it. I don’t think male boxers get asked it, though."
As a result, little is known about the Olympic gold medal winner's romantic history beyond her current relationship. However, Taylor is now settled down in a stable union that should mean fewer enquiries into her romantic life moving forward.
Marriage
In keeping with her preference for privacy, many were shocked to learn that Taylor married last year. The Irish sporting legend confirmed she had wed American estate agent Sean McCavanagh with very little pretence.
It's reported the couple are believed to have met through their church community after Taylor moved to Vernon in Connecticut a decade ago. Taylor previously joined Sean and his late wife, Alicia, on a holiday to Boston, and the pair also attended several of Taylor's fights in 2017.
Sky's Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle includes at least 215 live Premier League clashes across the 2026/27 season, with more than 1,500 games from the EFL and beyond, plus F1, golf and darts.
This introductory offer saves £384 compared to the standard price, with every package also providing 100 regular channels alongside free Netflix and discovery+ subscriptions.
Sean's previous wife died unexpectedly in 2023, leaving him a widower with five children. A little more than two years later, he remarried to Taylor, who is expected to spend more time at her Connecticut residence now that she's officially retired.
McCavanagh is enjoying life being married to a member of boxing royalty. When asked about the change last year, he told the Sunday World: "It's the best ever, she's the best!"
Five kids
McCavanagh already had five kids from his past marriage, two sons and three daughters. Their ages reportedly range from 11 to 23.
That leaves quite a responsibility for Taylor entering into the family circle. Like anything else in her life, however, she's faced up to the challenge with calm and embraced its chaotic aspects.
"He’s the father of five amazing kids, and it’s definitely been a blessing for sure," she told RET Radio 1 in January. "They are five great kids, also with great senses of humour.
"There has definitely been lots of adjustments and lots of challenges along the way, but I’m not sure it’s changed me a lot. I’m definitely enjoying it and learning from it.
"It’s a great privilege to be a stepmother, and I’m very privileged to be a wife to an amazing man. I want to honour my husband and I want to be the best stepmother I can be as well."
