Meghan plans to 'rekindle' charity work as she and Prince Harry 'try to buy school supplies without being seen' The Duchess of Sussex is understood to be rebuilding links with charities she previously worked with while also exploring fresh causes to back following he return to Britain Meghan Markle is preparing to renew her work with UK charities as she settles back into life in Britain with Prince Harry and their two children, with the couple reportedly trying to buy back to school supplies while maintaining a low profile. The Duchess of Sussex, 45, is expected to reconnect with organisations she has supported before while also looking at new causes she could work with in the UK. A source close to the duchess said Meghan hopes to “pick up with a lot of people” as she rebuilds connections in Britain. She is also understood to be considering ways of backing new causes alongside the organisations she has previously worked with. "She is thinking about plans for how she can get more involved and support the causes she was supporting and was passionate about again, and new causes too. She wants to pick up with a lot of people," a source said. Smart Works is among the charities expected to remain part of Meghan’s plans. The organisation supports unemployed and vulnerable women by helping them with clothing, interview preparation and networking opportunities. Meghan first became involved with them after marrying Prince Harry in 2018 and continued supporting the charity after stepping back as a working royal. In 2019, she worked with major fashion names including Jigsaw and John Lewis to create a capsule collection in support of the organisation. Speaking at the time she said: “As women, it is 100 per cent our responsibility, I think, to support and uplift each other, to champion each other as we aim to succeed, to not set each other up for failure.” The source added; "Smart Works is a cause she was and remains deeply passionate about and she may well look to rekindle that relationship, where she can get back involved in a more meaningful way now that she's back here. There are still things she is working on back in Los Angeles that she is committed to - she is no less committed to her work and causes there, because she is here." For now, however, Meghan and Harry are said to be concentrating on getting Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, settled into their new home and ready for school. Friends of the couple said they are “trying to avoid being spotted” while they focus on family life. A source told the Sunday Times: “They are still unpacking at home and getting over the jet lag. "They’re buying school uniform and trying to buy pencil cases without being spotted. They wanted to come back, they’re excited about being back and everything that’s to come.” The family are also understood to have asked for Archie and Lilibet’s privacy to be respected while they adjust to life in Britain. Meghan has yet to make a public appearance in the UK since returning. Before the move, she had not been seen publicly in Britain since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral four years ago. That is expected to change once the family is more settled, as Meghan is expected to be photographed and publicised while carrying out charity work, reports The Sunday Times. The Sussexes are also said to be working through a new “fair” arrangement for coverage of their public engagements after withdrawing from the Royal rota system in 2020. Harry, meanwhile, is expected to resume public-facing charity work sooner. The Duke of Sussex is due to appear at this month’s annual WellChild Awards and is expected to take on further engagements in Britain. There have also been reports he could carry out a skydive for military charities after making a promise to 102-year-old veteran Ed Marshall during a visit to Toronto, Canada, last November. Meghan could also have acting work ahead, with the duchess remaining in talks over a possible role in The Gentlemen as preparations continue for its third series.
