Met Office maps show 57 areas face heavy rain on Tuesday as UK drenched by washout It's set to be a very wet start to the week - but it might just improve as the days go by - with a large band of rain moving in from the south west of England on Tuesday morning The Met Office has named the 57 counties of the UK set to see rain on Tuesday as a wash-out is set to drench the country. Heavy rain is expected on Tuesday morning (September 8) as a large band of precipitation moves from the south west to soak the south of England, Midlands, and eventually the north of England and Wales. Heavier showers will also hit Northern Ireland and Scotland, ensuring large parts of the UK are soggy by the end of the day. The Met Office forecast for Tuesday says: “Heavy rain slowly clearing the southeast in the morning. A brighter day for many and feeling fresh. Winds gradually easing in the north, with showers too.” The heaviest rain will fall in the early hours, around 2am. However, despite the larger band of rain dissipating by the time most people wake up, isolated showers could still catch most out. The weather is set to improve from Wednesday (September 9), however. Meteorologists added: “Drier and brighter on Wednesday with spells of sunshine. “Another band of rain then moves in for Thursday, before drier and brighter weather returns on Friday. Temperatures are likely around average.” The forecast high temperature on Tuesday is 21C in London, 19C in Cardiff, 16C in Belfast and Manchester, 15C in Edinburgh.
