The German spent six months in an induced coma and has continued to receive round-the-clock care in the years since. Only trusted friends and family have been given access to the F1 legend, with minimal information making it into the public realm. Schumacher is understood to have remained at his family's home near Lake Geneva, only occasionally receiving visitors. "It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us and now we are protecting Michael.”" Ralf Schumacher's emotional tribute Ralf Schumacher is six-and-a-half years younger than his brother and has spoken about idolising him while growing up. The 51-year-old enjoyed a 10-year F1 career of his own and revisited his childhood emotions when being reminded of Michael's achievements around the Monza tribute. "Well, it is very emotional," he told Sky Sports while watching a montage of his sibling's successes. "You tend to forget things because time moves on, Formula 1 moves on so rapidly, everything happens so fast. "I was always asked, 'Who was your personal idol?' And I never had one except my brother. And it's strange to say that because we are only six and a half years apart, but all I ever knew about racing, he taught me."
