Weather warnings are in place across Spain for extreme heat following weeks of scorching summer temperatures across Europe and the UK. Spain's weather agency AEMET (State Meteorological Agency) has issued several amber and yellow weather warnings across the country, the Liverpool Echo reports. An orange warning poses a more serious risk, referred to as an "important hazard". AEMET says an orange, or amber, alert signifies a "major risk", with people advised to "be prepared", take precautions and follow the latest weather information. Popular tourist areas including Gran Canaria, Andalucía and Cataluña have been placed under an orange warning. Meanwhile yellow warnings are in place for Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha, Extremadura, Madrid, Murcia, Navarre and Valencia. The yellow warnings are "low risk", but temperatures could reach 36C which is hotter than average for September in Spain. The warnings remain in place throughout Monday (September 7), with temperatures looking to remain high throughout the week. Spain is a popular holiday destination for millions of British tourists every year. Many people will still be jetting off to resorts across Spain over the next few weeks to make the most of the final summer sunshine. In the BBC's forecast for Seville this week, temperatures will remain in the high 30s. There will be a high of 39C on Tuesday (September 8) before a slight decrease to 35C on Wednesday (September 9). Ibiza is cooler, with a high of 31C on Tuesday (September 8) and 29C on Wednesday (September 9). While large parts of Europe continue to experience extreme heat, temperatures have dropped in the UK compared to the blistering sunshine we experienced over the summer. In its outlook for the UK this week, the Met Office said: "Drier and brighter on Wednesday with spells of sunshine. Another band of rain then moves in for Thursday, before drier and brighter weather returns on Friday. Temperatures likely around average." Temperatures remain around 17C and 18C this week, with drizzly spells and sunny interludes. September is officially underway, which marks the start of autumn for many. The beginning of a new season often brings about some unsettled conditions. Some signs that autumn has arrived include the changing colour of the leaves, a fall in temperatures and the arrival of cooler mornings. According to the Met Office, meteorological autumn always begins on September, 1 and ends on November 30. However, astronomical autumn begins with the autumn equinox, which usually falls on September 22 or 23 each year.
