Original 7 Up kid recalls one 'atrocious' interview ahead of final show The original 7 Up kids have been filmed every seven years since 1964, but the documentary series is coming to an end with 70 Up: The Final Chapter One of the original children who featured on 7 Up has recalled one “atrocious” interview over the years. Sue Davis was just seven years old when she first appeared on screens, and since that time, has returned every seven years. She’s now starring in the show’s final programme, 70 Up, alongside several of her original cast members. ITV is bringing back the show for one last time, it was announced earlier this year. Ahead of its release, Sue has reflected on moments filming over her life. She told RadioTimes: “Everyone would probably agree that 14 Up was atrocious... all of us hiding behind our hair. “But I’ve never thought ‘Oh, I don’t want it to happen’ because I enjoy doing it. You can see in the series that love is the thing that keeps us all going. “Sometimes it amazes me that people watch it because it’s just me being me – I’m not anything special, I’ve not done anything special. This is what’s made me special, if anything! The fact that I’ve taken part in this wonderful series is what I’m very proud of.” It was announced earlier this year that ITV would be bringing back its landmark series for one final time. Oscar-winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia also spoke about his involvement, calling it an “incredible honour and privilege” to direct the final instalment. Of the contestants, two have sadly died - Lynn Johnson and Nick Hitchon. Charles Furneaux last featured in 21 Up, but is expected to return for 70 Up. As well as Sue, those taking part include Bruce Balden, Tony Walker, Jackie Bassett, John Brisby, Andrew Brackfield, Suzy Lusk, Paul Kligerman, Symon Basterfield, Neil Hughes and Peter Davies, reports the Express. Ultimately, this is a tribute to the courage of all the cast who continue to share their lives with us so we can see our lives in them." Asif Kapadia also commented: "In 2014 I named the Up Series as my favourite documentary of all time. Who knew that two decades later I would have the incredible honour and privilege to be asked to direct 70 Up, the legendary documentary series. I love the show! “I have watched it all my life, first as a child with my parents and siblings, growing up in East London and then as an adult. I was lucky to meet Michael Apted a few times. I first came in contact with Apted when he interviewed me after he saw SENNA and he liked the fact I directed drama and documentaries, like him. “Directing 70 Up has been a dream project for me, the ultimate portrait of human life, working with my amazing editors Andrew Hulme and Patrick Saxer, we had the challenge of cutting hours of archive material shot over decades, while also looking at the nature of documentary filmmaking itself. I hope the audience feel my team and I have done the epic series justice with the closing chapter." 70 Up: The Final Chapter will land on Tuesday 15 September at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
