Meghan Markle has been strongly tipped to star in Netflix hit The Gentlemen after her return to the UK - but one of the show's stars doesn't sound too keen on the possibility
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are back living in the UK after an absence of more than six years. Rumours have been rife about what the pair will do for work after their return to Britain.
Meghan had been strongly tipped to return to acting with a stint in popular Netflix show The Gentlemen. But one of the show's stars, Ray Winstone, doesn't sound too enamoured with the prospect.
When questioned about the possibility of Meghan joining the cast on The Romesh Ranganathan Show, he said: "Who?" He followed that up by saying: "Oh, shut up."
Ray added: "I've never met her." Comedian Romesh had floated the idea that Meghan has been rumoured to revive her acting career in the next series of the programme.
Ray responded: "What, in The Gentlemen? Oh, shut up. I don't think so."
Meghan had been linked with a role in The Gentlemen, Guy Ritchie's Netflix gangster series, after her and Harry's UK return was confirmed. The popular programme has been commissioned for a third season and stars Ray Winstone, Theo James and Kaya Scodelario.
Former Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Tina Brown claimed that Meghan's casting had been pulled following "backlash in the UK," and acting veteran Ray Winstone offered a rather blunt response to the possibility of the Duchess of Sussex joining the cast, reports the Express.
Ray isn't the first cast member from the show to address the Meghan speculation. Theo James and Kaya Scodelario spoke to the Press Association and appeared equally taken aback by the claims.
Theo said: "Those kind of big, spurious rumours, I mean I had heard one that Harry was going to join."
Kaya assumed he meant Harry Styles before Theo clarified he was referring to Prince Harry. Kaya then responded: "We should just start making ones up. Shows how little I know; I thought he was telling the truth."
The former working royals landed at Birmingham Airport last month to begin the new chapter of their life in Britain. Their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, have been enrolled in British schools.
There has been intense speculation surrounding what Harry and Meghan will pursue professionally, with Suits star Meghan widely expected to make a return to acting. Her acting work has been sparse since departing Suits in 2018, following her marriage to Harry, though she does appear as herself in the forthcoming comedy film Close Personal Friends.
It comes after one of Harry's friends 'revealed' their secret UK living arrangements as an 18-month warning was issued. The details of Harry and Meghan's return have been shrouded in secrecy after the bombshell news dropped.
Writing in the Mail on Sunday, Alison Boshoff said a friend of Prince Harry's has claimed the Sussexes are currently staying on the estate of another pal.
But the arrangement could end up being anything but temporary. The friend warned it may be up to 18 months before Harry and Meghan move into a permanent home.
"They are staying in a property on the estate of a friend," the source told Boshoff. "But the truth is Harry feels they are highly unlikely to find somewhere that is just ready to move into."
